Polignano a Mare is risen on the Adriatic sea. It is a picturesque town cliff above the sea,
with a coast rich in inlets, coves and natural caves.
The Neapolis Peuceta was frequented by
the man since the paleolithic (Grotta dei Ladroni, Grotta del Guardiano), then it became Roman
colony and it was used as barn to supply the armies that left along the Traiana street.

In the neighbourhood of Polignano a Mare, the Abbazia di San Vito, particularly relevant
from the historical point of view, is located in the same-named sea village.
Remains of
the ancient Roman statio were found recently during archaeological excavations carried
out around the Abbey. The 1200 year old Abbey is today the house of many inhabitants of
the village of San Vito.
To Polignano a Mare was born the singer Domenico Modugno famous in the world for his song
" Nel blu dipinto di blu" (Volare). His Career in the theatre, the cinema, the TV was as
much as remarkable.
